Firstly, well done!

A successful interview process isn’t a guarantee but you have managed to acquire the genuine excitement of a top tier candidate, who is now eagerly hoping and anticipating an offer to be sent their way.

This is the moment that we’ve seen many businesses falter.

Even some of the best companies often fall short post-interview by not showing intent or demonstrating their commitment, resulting in missed opportunities.

In this blog, we’ll guide you through the steps to make candidates feel valued, from the offer stage to their first day, ensuring you secure their signature.

The Offer Stage: Show Them They Matter

The offer stage is where excitement and intent converge, and it’s crucial to get it right.

Here’s how…

Interest to Action Quickly:

Whether it’s during the interview or shortly after, confirm your interest with the candidate as soon as possible. If internal discussions are needed, make them a priority.

Good candidates will often have multiple options, and your hesitation could result in losing them. We really advise you to send your offer out while their excitement—and yours—is still fresh.

Keep the Candidate in the Loop:

Okay now you’ve decided to move forward, you have to maintain regular communication through your recruiter or directly with the candidate. Updates, even brief ones, help keep the relationship strong and the candidate engaged.

The last thing you want is some miscommunication that could cause any barriers between you and the candidate at this point.

MAINTAIN THE VIBE!

Stand Out From The Pack!

Top tier candidates may have three or four offers on the table, including counter offers from their current employer. You have to maximise your chances your offer not only meets but exceeds expectations in terms of salary, benefits, and the overall opportunity.

It’s about showing the candidate their value and the potential impact they’ll have in your business.

Don’t lowball the salary!

Demonstrate Your Commitment: The Smoothest of Transitions!

Well done again!

Your offer was up to the mark and the candidate has signed the dotted line!

But a signature is just the start, showing ongoing commitment ensures the candidate remains confident in their decision to join your team.

Stay Connected During the Notice Period:

This is where we’ve seen many businesses slip up.

Regular check-ins, whether through your recruiter or directly, are crucial to keep the candidate engaged and to prevent counteroffer temptations. A simple message or call shows you’re invested in their future with your company.

Invite Them Into the Business:

If possible, include the candidate in a company social event, team meeting, or a casual lunch before their start date. It’s an excellent way to build rapport and make them feel part of the team early on.

Be Fully Prepared for Their First Day:

Cast your mind back to a few of your first day experiences at previous jobs…

Anxious affairs right?

It’s so important that when you have a new starter that your business values and want to see become a key part of the team, that you ensure they have a great first day!

It’s a cliche, but first impressions really will be huge.

We really encourage that you ensure all technical and logistical elements like their laptop, email access, system login etc are ready to go straight away. A smooth onboarding experience sets the tone for their tenure with you.

Why All of This Matters…

Failing to act decisively or show your commitment to a top-tier candidate doesn’t just hurt in the short term, it can be costly in the long run. Restarting the hiring process requires more time, money, and resources, not to mention the opportunity cost of leaving a crucial role unfilled.

Remember, top talent has options, and those options won’t wait for you. By acting quickly, maintaining communication, and demonstrating intent, you significantly improve your chances of landing the right candidate.

Candidates will lean towards employers who show enthusiasm and intent. If you’re proactive and thoughtful during the process, you’ll not only secure their signature but also lay the foundation for a strong professional relationship.

Elite candidates are in high demand, and securing their signature requires more than just a good interview. By acting swiftly, staying engaged, and showcasing your commitment, you send a clear message: they are valued, and your business is the right choice for their career.
