Roles & Responsibilities
Role Overview
This role focuses on working on projects from Stage 3/4 design development through to the handover to the site project team when work on-site commences. Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Pre-Construction Engineer, the role requires a proactive approach to elevate pre-construction practices and reinforce our commitment to excellence and innovation.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination
- Assist the Quantity Surveyor (QS) with preparing supplier and subcontractor enquiry documentation.
- Issue supplier and subcontractor enquiries and ensure returned bids are aligned and ready for review.
- Support the QS/Procurement department in placing orders for required equipment and services.
2. Design Audits and Reviews
- Conduct thorough design audits and reviews, raising Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary.
- Evaluate designs for Value Engineering (VE) opportunities, ensuring cost-effective and efficient solutions are identified.
3. CDP Subcontractor Management
- Oversee and manage Critical Design Package (CDP) subcontractors throughout the pre-construction phase to ensure deliverables meet project requirements.
4. External Design Consultant Management
- Liaise with external design consultants to ensure work complies with project specifications and timelines.
5. BIM and Working Drawing Resources
- Manage Building Information Modelling (BIM) and working drawing resources, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
6. Technical Submittals
- Prepare and issue technical submittals for various systems and components, ensuring compliance with project standards and specifications.
7. Design Team Collaboration
- Actively participate in Design Team meetings, providing input and solutions on technical and pre-construction matters.
8. Preconstruction Reports
- Prepare and issue detailed preconstruction reports to the client, maintaining clear and transparent communication.
9. Variations and Change Management
- Collaborate with the QS to assist in managing variations and changes, ensuring all modifications are documented and communicated effectively.
10. Factory Witness Tests
- Attend Factory Witness Tests for equipment as applicable, ensuring compliance with specified standards.
Key Competencies
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of design development and pre-construction processes.
- Attention to Detail: High standard of accuracy in preparing reports, submittals, and audits.
- Collaboration: Skilled at working closely with multidisciplinary teams, external consultants, and clients.
- Problem Solving: Proactive in identifying challenges and proposing effective solutions.
- Organisation: Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Required Experience
- Demonstrable experience assisting with pre-construction activities, including supplier and subcontractor coordination.
- Proven experience in conducting design audits, raising RFIs, and identifying Value Engineering opportunities.
- Experience managing external design consultants and CDP subcontractors.
- Familiarity with BIM and working drawing management processes.
- Hands-on experience with variations, change management, and technical submittals.
